Yesterday was the last day of 1st grade for Jacob and the last day of 3rd grade for Caleb. They were ready to go!
Big excited smiles!
There they are getting on the bus. This is taken from our front porch. It was so nice having the bus stop right across the street! And the boys had the nicest bus driver, Mr. Stanley!
While the boys were at school I wanted to make a special last day of school treat. So, I decided to try my hand at homemade cinnamon rolls (courtesy of The Pioneer Woman). Here is the mess I made on my counter!
In progress...
All done! MMMmmmm! The recipe I used has a maple icing flavored with a little coffee (pictured below on the right) but I knew my boys would not appreciate that as much so I decided to make a pan with just sugar icing for them.
These are the ones for Doug and me! On the left is cream cheese icing (I ended up drizzling the maple icing over these too - yum!) and on the right is the maple. They were really tasty! This was the first time I have ever made cinnamon rolls from scratch. It's quite the messy endeavor but it ended well!
When the boys came home, they proceeded to litter the house with all their various papers and art projects they had been collecting at school all year. They also had their report cards. Both boys did great once again - all A's for Caleb and all high marks for Jacob (they don't do grades in 1st grade)! We have such smart, hard-working boys!
The activity of choice in the evening was building card houses!
Here is one that Caleb built.
He called this one his "plus sign" house.
Caleb looks like he's about to huff and puff and blow his house down!
Jacob decided to start spelling things out with his cards (and a few Bakugan card thrown in for good measure!)
Just the first in all the fun summer activities that lie ahead! They were up early this morning and are already begging to go to the pool (at 8:45AM).
Happy summer everyone!

I bet those cinnamon rolls were unbelievable. Are you making them for Sunday???? :) JK!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great mom you are and what a fun evening!
Nice job on the rolls! I guess I should have warned you how messy and time consuming they can be:) The look super yummy, it's making me want some! Jacob is so cute spelling with his cards! I love how creative kids are. Happy summer! Too bad it rained ALL day here AGAIN! Your profile pic is really pretty BTW:)
